چکیده

The Toroidal Magnetized System device has been significantly upgraded to enable development of various wall conditioning techniques, including methods based on ion and electron cyclotron (IC/EC) range frequency plasmas, complement plasma–wall interaction research in tokamaks stellarators. toroidal magnetic field generated by 16 coils can reach its maximum 125 mT the axis. EC system is operated at 2.45 GHz with up 6 kW forward power. IC couple 10 MHz–50 MHz. direct current glow discharge a graphite anode voltage 1.5 kV A. A load-lock vertical manipulator allows exposure material samples. number diagnostics have installed: single- triple-pin Langmuir probes for radial plasma profiles, time-of-flight neutral particle analyzer capable detecting neutrals energy eV–1000 eV, quadrupole mass spectrometer video systems imaging. majority are controlled Siemens SIMATIC S7 system, which also provides safety interlocks.

The upgraded Large Plasma Device, a machine for studying frontier basic plasma physics.

In 1991 a manuscript describing an instrument for studying magnetized plasmas was published in this journal. The Large Plasma Device (LAPD) was upgraded in 2001 and has become a national user facility for the study of basic plasma physics. The upgrade as well as diagnostics introduced since then has significantly changed the capabilities of the device. All references to the machine still quote ...

Plasma Dynamics and Plasma Wall Interaction

High power and particle deposition on target materials are encountered in many applications including magnetic and inertial fusion devices, nuclear and high energy physics applications, and laser and discharge produced plasma devices. Surface and structural damage to plasma-facing components due to the frequent loss of plasma confinement remains a serious problem for the Tokamak reactor concept...

Damage studies on irradiated tungsten by helium and argon ions in a plasma focus device

Damage of tungsten due to helium and argon ions of a PF device was studied. Tungsten samples were irradiated by 20 shots of the plasma focus device with argon and helium as working gases, separately. The tungsten surface was analyzed by SEM, before and after irradiation. SEM revealed dense blisters with diameters of a few hundred nanometers, on the samples which were irradiated by helium ions, ...

Fluctuations in the Enormous Toroidal Plasma Device at UCLA

Turbulence and transport across magnetic field lines disrupt plasma confinement, which is particularly troublesome in toroidal geometries potentially useful for fusion energy. We investigate fluctuations of a helium plasma in the Enormous Toroidal Plasma Device (ETPD) at UCLA using 4-tip Langmuir probes to measure potential and ion saturation current. ETPD is a simple magnetized torus with majo...

Laser-produced plasma-wall interaction

Jets of laser–generated plasma represent a flexible and well-defined model environment for investigation of plasma interactions with solid surfaces (walls). The pilot experiments carried out on the iodine laser system (5–200 J, 0.44 mm, 0.25–0.3 ns, ,1 10 W/cm) at the PALS Research Centre in Prague are reported. Modification of macroscopic characteristics of the Al plasma jets produced at laser...
